Local experts in an ancient craft
The use of knapped flint for construction goes back to the times of Saxons, Vikings and even Romans. It was especially prominent in Norwich, and was used in many local structures which are still with us today. Flint knapping involves shaping flint into round stones or squared blocks of specific sizes, ideal for use in construction. Flint knapping was also used to create 'flushwork', where flattened flint blocks were framed in limestone to create intricate decorated features.
At Tyrrell Builders & Son we have mastered this traditional building technique, and can be counted on to restore worn or damaged flint structures throughout the area. We bring over 50 years' industry experience, and can help with a wide range of additional restoration services.
